Comment by NiagaraMike on March 15, 2013 at 12:26pm The ice will disappear a lot faster once the ice boom is removed.
Here is a video which shows how fast the ice flows out of Lake Erie once that Ice boom is removed.

Comment by NiagaraMike on March 15, 2013 at 12:06pm Good to know. Thanks for the update.
Of course things will speed up when they remove the ice booms .at the source of the Niagara river..
Strange how those wave maps suggest more open water than they did earlier. But shore detail would likely be pretty hard to show on them.
Wonder what Lake Huron is like....
Thanks for the report. Some good warm windy weather could change Erie fast. However they keep lowering the temperatures in the forecasts... they had predicted that Feb and March would be significantly above normal. Sure did not turn out that way.
Regardless, encountering chunks of breaking up ice would not be a first choice when surfing...
See you on Lake ON?

Comment by NiagaraMike on March 14, 2013 at 9:02pm NO ICE at Lake ON Municipal Beach today. Cannot comment on Lake Erie other than the wave maps suggests lot more open water than there has been for the last while. This is an active URL so you might have to change the time once you get to the web page. Hope this helps or, better yet, that someone gives you direct information.

Tuesday is showing fairly strong southwest winds... could be some choppy waves on Erie.
