A place for Great Lakes surfers to connect

Mark your calendars, "The" Wyldewood Surf Club has announced it's 2012 schedule of events.

Saturday June the 16th will be the first beach cleanup as part of Surfing Magazine's, International Surfing Day. It will be a simil-cleanup at 3 popular Erie locations, The Palmwood, Pleasant Beach and Wyldewood Road (where it all began in 1968), followed by a BBQ back at Pleasant Beach. Gloves, bags and food is provided (maybe even beer). Exact times will follow.

Saturday August the 11th is a new event, the Summer Surf Classic. This is an all day event and will feature a Surf Swap (bring out your old gear, wetsuits, gloves, boots, old leashes, surfboards, skateboards, anything surf related), there will be a free ding repair clinic, Classic Surfboard display and Surfboard Roadshow (if you have an old board and want to know it's history and value), Pig Roast Luau, bonfire in the evening with fireworks and movies under the stars, surfboard raffle and prizes galore. This will take place at the Pleasant Beach Lodge, ample parking in the compound and free camping.

Saturday September the 15th will be the end of season (for the messy beach goers) cleanup at Pleasant Beach and the Palmwood. It's when our season starts in earnest, so pitch in if you like to surf there in the Fall.

And of course the Big One, the weekend of November 17th and 18th will be the third annual, Gales of November, Magilla Schaus Memorial, ESA Sanctioned contest, the one to qualify competitors for the ESA Championships. Memorial Paddleout, Drunk Sk8 Slalom Challenge, HUGE party at the Crystal Chandelier in Crystal Beach Ontario, surfboard raffle, mega-prizes, great food (if you missed it last year, you probably heard it was off the hook.

Look for details to follow.

Thanks for posting. Looking forward to the year. The Summer Surf Classic is a great idea.

The name may be changed to the Summer Surfboard Festival. There's the possibility of a live shaping demo. That's all I can say for now.
